Remote Access to FertiSoft |
||||
|
Being able to access you patient record from outside of your network (Remote Session) is not only a "Powerful tool" anymore but a matter of "Security" and "Communication with a third party". In order to setup a remote session, you will need: |
||||
Connection TypeFertiSoft has been tested and supports the following.
Regular phone line (56Kbps) using a modem is the least efficient (slowest) access. You will require either an Internet access or a host station "waiting for your call" inside your network. From there you will need to use one for the "Communication Software" described later. ISDN (Integrated Service Digital Network) Though it's been very popular in Europe, ISDN technology didn't have the same impact in America. Not every provider offer that service. This technology is also complex and seems misunderstood what could make the experience frustrating. However when the line is working fine, you can have speed up to 144Kbps which allows a decent transmission. Very popular and affordable for private residence (this type of connection is not available for business). Some ISPs will offer download speeds up to 1.2Mbps. Because DSL connections are not available everywhere, a lot of people will find it convenient to get a "TV + Internet Cable connection" plan. This type of connection is working great with "Terminal Server for Microsoft". DSL Connection (Digital Subscriber Line) This is the fastest most efficient line. This type of connection will give you speed between 144Kbps and 1.5Mbps. DSL has been used for many years and is a simple and stable technology. You're always connected, the speed is great and the price is affordable. If your network is not already connected with DSL (or T1) line, a 144Kbps (minimum) connection will need to be installed to the "FertiSoft Database server" in order to provide support access, maintenance and updates. |

| Communication Software | ||||
| A "Communication Software" will allow you to run FertiSoft from your remote connection. These software have been tested with FertiSoft: | ||||
| RAS Connection (Remote Access Service) | ||||
| Included as a service with
MicrosoftNT4 and 2000, this allows you to connect to your network. This type of (slow) transmission will be used in case
you don't have any Internet access or other communication software. We do not recommend running FertiSoft using only
RAS. Once connected, a software like pcAnywhere will manage your session. |
||||
| pcAnywhere 8.0/9.2 (by Symantec) | ||||
| This software allows you to connect to another station and run FertiSoft from that machine. pcAnywhere gives the Remote user the control of the mouse, the keyboard and reproduce the host monitor view. However, a station must be dedicated, since two users can not work on the same computer at the same time. |

| Terminal Services for Microsoft Client | ||||
| Terminal Services use
TCP/IP addresses and allow connection to the Database Server from anywhere in the world where an internet connection is
available. Combined with a fast DSL (or Cable Connection) access, the session run directly on the server designed
to support many connections. With Terminal Services a Windows 2000 server can be access EVEN FROM AN OLD WIN95 or
Macintosh ! (with a Terminal client license) (...see picture below) Microsoft Terminal Services is the preferred communication software supported with "FertiSoft Database Server" |
