Satellites table

This is the list of satellite locations for use in the combo boxes where the user needs to enter or to choose a satellite location. The database has fields for the office address, phone and fax numbers. This is also where you write the personalized text for the master satellites report. This database can also be used to create a mailing list out of the satellite location names.

When you click on the drop-down menu "Satellites..." under "Tables", a dialog window like the next one will appear:

In this window, you find the following controls:

Modify button

Once granted the appropriate right, select the satellite location and click the "Modify..." button or double click the line where your selection is and a dialog box will appear to modify the records. The ID "Code:" cannot be changed once the record is created; too much data is linked to this ID to permit a change. Be sure to click the "Save" button in order to secure your change.

The "Short Name:" field is used in most report to identify the satellite location. It is important that you select a descriptive short name for all the users to understand which satellite location it is.

The "Laboratory:" field is used to identify the laboratory that is processing the tests for this satellite location. This is used to generate test tubes numbers when printing the labels. If you don't need to generate test tubes numbers (return addresses), just leave this field empty.

The "Report Label:" field is a text box that stores the text that will be used to print messages on the Master Satellites report. This is a free text box with unlimited length, but be careful not to make it too large for the report layout.

Add a Satellite...

You can add a satellite location by clicking on the "Add a Satellite..." button at the bottom left corner of the window.

The "Add a Satellite..." button is similar to the "Modify" button, but it will bring up a dialog box with empty fields. From there, you can use "TAB" or "Shift + TAB" to move to the next or previous field.

The Code ID MUST be unique. If you change the automatic ID supplied by FertiSoft, the code you enter must not already exist in the database. If it does, the "Save" button will be disabled and the red message will appear:

Once you've completed the information, click "Save" and  your satellite location record is created. Now you can view t his record under "Satellites Table Maintenance" data browser.

Close this window

The Quit button is used to close the satellite locations dialog window. It is located just to the right of the "Add" button. It acts in the same manner as the " X " in the upper right corner of the window.

Data browser

The data browser is the data container where you can browse the satellite location records. It contains column for IDs, short names, descriptions, phone numbers and extensions. You can navigate in the database and find the record you are searching for. Once you found it, you can select it with your mouse. Or you can double click on it to activate the "Modify" function for this record. When you change the display order, the column header that the order is active will turn yellow.

Search control

This control gives you the power to search the satellite location database. It is linked with the "List by..." control; if the list by code is selected, the search will be applied on the ID code field, if the list by name is selected, the search will be applied on the description field.

The search is incremental, you type letters and the browser will move to the nearest match to narrow your display to your search criteria.

If your search is not found, the following message will appear:

List by... control

This control is to select the display order in the browser and also to select the search order in the search control. If you select "List by Code", the browser will show the satellite locations listed by ID code order. If you select "List by Name", the browser will show the satellite locations listed by description ordered alphabetically.

Report Label box

The "Report Label:" field is a text box that stores the text that will be used to print messages on the Master Satellites report. This is a free text box with unlimited length, but be careful not to make it too large for the report layout. (See Satellite Master Report)

Listing

You can print a satellite locations listing by clicking on the "Listing..." button. First, you need to confirm the printer that will be used if you print the listing. This is done in the Choose printer dialog window. This is useful if you want to change the target printer or change some of the printing parameters (See Printing Dialog). After pressing the "OK" button, the process will build the listing in the computer memory. FertiSoft will bring you to the print preview screen where you can visualize the listing as if it were on paper. From this preview, you can then decide to print it on paper or not.

The layout on this listing is data retrieved from the satellite locations database. You have useful information on this listing, from left to right:

  • Satellite location's ID
  • Description name
  • Address
  • Contact person's name and phone number
  • Fax number
  • Short name for reports layout
  • Laboratory used for the tests
  • Master satellites report personalized message text

For complete information on how the preview window works, See Preview Window.
