we developped complete solutions for connectivity betweeb people and the Internet in regions where they cannot get high speed Internet.
We are using frequencies in the 5.8ghz (802.11a) range to distribute the main signal to different access points using frequencies in the 2.4ghz (802.11b/g) range to reach the end users. So the repeaters have 2 radios and act as a redirecting system to spread the network and obtain a best possible coverage in your area. This kind of network can be designed as a mesh or point to multi-points networks.
In using the right antennas and radios, the coverage could reach a radius from 1 and 15 km, all depending on the land shape around the towers, trees and height of the towers. Many configurations are possible, with omnidirectionnal antennas or with high gain directionnal antennas.
